LEARNING OUTCOME: WHAT THE STUDENT WILL PRODUCE TO DEMONSTRATE LEARNING YOU WILL... Students will be able to more close understand the various elements, themes, and characters of a literary novel by completing and producing a mini journal; the mini journal allows students to process the information in each chapter through their designs, descriptions and discussions. Students will produce an Informational essay by utilizing their understanding of accessing multiple resources, summarizing ideas into their own words and imbedding information into a structured 5 paragraph essay. - Discuss with partner why they chose their selections
- Determine if their selections were the same or different
- if the same explain, if not the same review notes and determine which should be the best selection based on notes and description of each main type

- Informative Essay (Animal Intelligence)
- Students read each others Body paragraphs and Conclusion paragraphs

- Review with students: Author's Purpose
- Remind students of the various forms and types of Author's Purpose
- Students are provided with mini direct instruction that the Author's Purpose can be either of the following:
- to persuade, to inform, to entertain, to describe or explain
- Students will have an opportunity to practice independently
- Review the responses as a whole group
- Provide direction instruction via a mini lesson on Central Idea
- Students are provided with a NewsELA article: Antarctic glaciers' melt is happening more rapidly than was first believed
- Students will receive a graphic organizer that will allow students to identify the headings, sub-headings, the purpose, text structure and write the 3 main points.
- Students will read and practice how to respond to a question by identifying Central Idea
- What quotation best expresses the Central Idea of the article?

LEARNING TASK (VERB IN BLOOM'S TAXONOMY):
- Students are provided with a mini lesson on the elements of each part of their essay
- Provide a mini lesson on 'paraphrasing a text'
- Explain to students the following:
- Start your first sentence at a different point from that of the original source.
- Use synonyms (words that mean the same thing)
- Change the sentence structure (e.g. from active to passive voice)
- Break the information into separate sentences.
- Students will apply this information to continue to develop and complete their Animal Intelligence essays
- (Due Monday, Nov. 29th)
- Select a mini project from the 'Holes Digging Deeper' Choice Board
- Review rubric for their selected mini project choice
- Refer to the Choice Board and Rubrics on the materials section on Google Classroom

- Students will now use each of their Body paragraph topics to begin to write each of their Body paragraphs.
- Remind students of the key elements and features of writing Body Paragraphs
- Students are reminded that strong Thesis Statements set the stage for their Body Paragraphs
- Allow for students to revisit their Thesis statements to ensure that it synthesizes with their Body paragraph topics
- Review how to use Informative essay graphic organizer for students to utilize as a tool to document evidence and the standard structure for a 5 paragraph essay.
