LEARNING OUTCOME: WHAT THE STUDENT WILL PRODUCE TO DEMONSTRATE LEARNING YOU WILL... Students will be able to more close understand the various elements, themes, and characters of a literary novel by completing and producing a mini journal; the mini journal allows students to process the information in each chapter through their designs, descriptions and discussions. Students will produce an Informational essay by utilizing their understanding of accessing multiple resources, summarizing ideas into their own words and imbedding information into a structured 5 paragraph essay. - Complete Mini Journal Literary Element:
- Explain to students the Literary Element: Quote Analysis
- Explain to students that they will paraphrase the quote meaning put it in different words that mean the same thing. Don't use quotation marks because quotation marks mean you are writing exactly the words that were said.
- Inform students that they will draw a picture that represents this quote and write a short 1-2 detailed sentence describe the picture
- Explain Literary Element: Quote Analysis
- Log onto Ms. Owens Weebly resources page
- Select the Holes button and scroll down to chapters 40-44

- Write the Literary title and date at the top of a blank journal page
- Ms. Owens will inform, explain and review the Literary element of the day
- Students will read along with Ms. Owens, with classroom peers and reading audibles

- Read Holes Chapter 45-50
- Review Literary Elements: Character Development
- Explain to students that in literature, characters can change and grow. In chapter 42, Stanley thinks about how he has changed since the day he was arrested. What are three ways that Stanley has changed? (If you're having trouble, think of some things he can do now that he couldn't do before he came to Camp Green Lake.)
- Inform to students that they will draw three scenes from these chapters, including the final scene in Ch. 44
- Students will Draw and describe these items in their mini journals
